2024 Exploring the Southeast and Beyond

Mallorca, with its sun-soaked beaches, charming towns, and vibrant culinary scene, is a perfect summer getaway. In August 2024, I ventured to the island’s stunning southeast, uncovering a blend of luxury, relaxation, and cultural experiences that left me enchanted.

Porto Colom: A Tranquil Haven

The picturesque fishing village of Porto Colom was my base for exploring the southeast. Known for its authentic charm and colorful boats dotting the marina, the town offered a serene escape. I spent afternoons at S’Arenal Grand, a relaxed beach with golden sands and turquoise waters. Here, I discovered Blue Bar Chiringuito, a laid-back spot serving chilled cocktails and freshly grilled seafood, perfect for unwinding with the sound of the waves.

Santanyí: Market Day Magic

A short drive inland took me to Santanyí, a quaint town with a lively atmosphere on market days. The Saturday market was a feast for the senses, brimming with vibrant stalls selling local produce, handmade crafts, and artisanal goods. After wandering through the cobbled streets, I enjoyed a leisurely coffee at one of the square’s cafes, soaking up the energy and charm.

Palma: A Fusion of Culture and Cuisine

No trip to Mallorca is complete without a visit to Palma, the island’s vibrant capital. The historic old town is a maze of narrow alleys, Gothic architecture, and hidden gems. For dinner, I indulged in arguably the best pizza on the island at Rialto Living Café, located in a beautifully restored historic building. Before heading back, I visited the Mercat de l’Olivar, a bustling market offering everything from fresh seafood to gourmet delicacies, perfect for stocking up on Mallorcan treats.

A Luxurious Boating Experience

One highlight of the trip was a private boat tour around the island. Starting from Porto Colom, the journey offered breathtaking views of the rugged coastline, secluded coves, and crystal-clear waters. Stopping to snorkel near Cala Mondragó and enjoy a gourmet picnic on board was an unforgettable experience, combining adventure with indulgence.

Gourmet Dining in the Southeast

In the evenings, I explored the area’s culinary delights. Sa Llotja in Porto Colom served exquisite seafood dishes with a fine dining flair, and Es Torrent de Son Carrió, tucked away in a peaceful setting, offered farm-to-table Mallorcan cuisine paired with excellent local wines.

Relaxation and Luxury

For a more luxurious beachside experience, Mhares Sea Club, just a short drive from the southeast, provided an idyllic setting with infinity pools, Balinese beds, and panoramic sea views. A perfect spot to watch the sun dip below the horizon while sipping a glass of cava.

A Perfect Summer Escape

Mallorca’s southeast offers a harmonious blend of relaxation, culture, and luxury. From the charming streets of Santanyí to the indulgent dining options in Porto Colom and the vibrant energy of Palma, every moment of this trip was memorable. Whether it’s soaking up the sun at a chiringuito, exploring hidden coves by boat, or savoring the island’s diverse flavors, Mallorca in August is pure magic.
